A real world analogy would be like if the commander of the Chinese Special Forces attempted to carry out a 9/11 style attack on the west coast. We learn in ME3 that he's a high-ranking member of the Batarian military. During BDTS we readily make the assumption that he's a professional, likely a state-sponsored terrorist leader. What's murky operationally is the fact that Balak isn't just some psycho slaver. Morally, this isn't as grey as the game makes it seem. You'd have to live with that decision for the rest of your life if they did. What you do know for sure is that it's your call whether or not the hostages "here and now" will die. Sure, Balak may at some point try another attack, but you don't know that for sure. I'll tell you right off the bat that according to current American doctrine, the right decision would be to rescue the hostages. ![]()
